I know, that description sounds really unpleasant. Granted, parts of it probably weren't the greatest moments of my life, but moments like that are the ones that make life. Those are the moments that reveal the true necessities of life, and the gifts God has blessed us with for our time on earth.
We, especially those of us in the United States, have been blessed with so much. So much wealth, material, education, and power. I really like how Rob Bell states things in the Nooma video "Rich," when he talks about his frustration with America, and all the bumper stickers that read, "God Bless America." As Rob Bell states, "God has blessed America. How has America blessed others?" I wholeheartedly agree.
The first step to knowing how to bless others is knowing how we've been blessed. With that, I feel a need to recognize what I am grateful for:
-indoor plumbing
-mattresses
-toilet paper
-soap and water
-clean drinking water
-enjoying my food and it's diversity
-a pair of good shoes
-correction: multiple pairs of good shoes
-my family
-cars/bikes/buses/any form of transportation other than my own feet
-God's unabiding love
-the ability to communicate
-flashlights and light bulbs
-my education
-the opportunity to see God through the eyes of another
May you take a moment today to consider what you are grateful for, and how God provides above an beyond our basic needs to show us His love for us.
